Dan Seiler and Denise Keller, members of MTA 88, attended the State of the County address on Tuesday, February 4, 2020. Both submitted questions to the Commissioners about the tax credit law passed in 2008. None of the Commissioners professed to know the status of the legislation in Washington County. Commissioner Cort Meinelschmidt met after the meeting with Dan and Denise and said that he would look into the issue. The law in question would give a property tax credit to any totally disabled First Responder injured in the line of duty or to the surviving spouse.
In Annapolis Sgt. Brian Blubaugh, MTA President, testified February 5, 2020, in support of SB303 before the Senate Budget and Taxation Committee. This bill adds language that will allow active MSP Troopers, who work outside of the County where they live, to be eligible for a property tax credit for their residence.
