It is with sadness that I report the death of Mary Stotelmyer beloved wife of Cpl Bob Stotelmyer – Retired

Mary Lee Stotelmyer, 70, of Hagerstown, Md., died peacefully Sunday, Dec. 17, 2017, at her home surrounded by her family after a yearlong battle with pancreatic cancer. Mary’s desire to not give up helped her overcome many obstacles associated with the illness, but in the end, it proved to be more than she was able to control.

Born Aug. 5, 1947, in Waynesboro, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Thomas B. Graden and June L. (Shaffer) and William Kaplan.
Mary was a 1965 graduate of South Hagerstown High School. Mary and her husband of 52 years, Robert, were married June 11, 1965, in Hagerstown.
She was a member of Emmanuel United Methodist Church for more than 50 years.
Mary retired from The Bon-Ton in Hagerstown after 36 years as an assistant store manager.
She was most happy when spending time with family and enjoying their activities. She was known as the kind of person who always put family, friends and others’ needs before her own.
Enjoying annual vacations in Myrtle Beach with her family and friends was just one of Mary’s favorite memories. She was determined to reach her favorite beach in her final days and, with the help of hospice, family and friends, she did just that.
She will be sorely missed by many.
In addition to her husband, Bob, Mary is survived by two sons, Michael L. Stotelmyer and wife, Pam, of Hagerstown, and Darren M. Stotelmyer and wife, Wendy, of Funkstown; father-in-law, Robert C. Stotelmyer Sr. of Hagerstown; granchildren, Jessica L. Stotelmyer Roy of Oakland, Md., Carter M. Stotelmyer of Funkstown and Brittany N. Brown of Hagerstown; great-granddaughters, Nevaeh and Aubree; stepbrother, William “Butch” Kaplan and wife, Barbara, of Maugansville; stepsister, Suzanne Schleeper of Akron, Ohio; and nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2017, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro, Md.
A celebration of Mary’s life journey will be Thursday, Dec. 21, 2017, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. The Rev. Randy Reid will officiate. Burial will be at Rose Hill Cemetery, Hagerstown.
Serving as pallbearers will be Jim Schultheis, David Byers, Kevin Kaplan, Eddie Osbaugh, Eddie Thrush and Scott Stotelmyer.
The family has requested, in lieu of flowers, that memorial donations may be made in Mary’s memory to Hospice of Washington County, 747 Northern Ave., Hagerstown, MD 21742.
